🎓 ECOD Supports Mathews Mkandawire’s Education Journey, Calls for More Help

In a heartfelt act of community support, Ebenezer Community Development (ECOD) has stepped in to support Mathews Mkandawire, a 27-year-old first-year Open Distance Learning student from Katumbi Village, T/A Chindi, by contributing K60,000 toward his K600,000 tuition fees. With K540,000 (approx. USD 310) still outstanding, ECOD is calling on well-wishers to help Mathews continue his education.

Mathews, raised by a single mother after the death of his father, walks 7 kilometers daily to attend classes and pays K8,000 monthly rent, all while struggling to meet his basic needs.

“I’m grateful to ECOD for the support—it has brought me one step closer to my academic dreams. But I still need help with accommodation and fees so I can focus fully on my studies,” said Mathews.

Before enrolling, Mathews earned a living by selling eggs in town, but the income was insufficient to sustain both his livelihood and educational ambitions. He is now appealing to individuals, organizations, and well-wishers to support his dream of a better future through education.

“His resilience is inspiring,” said ECOD Project Officer Shadreck Haswell Thenda. “We’re supporting other students too, but we need more partners to expand this impact.”
